Colour: Duck Egg Blue

I'm loving the fresh feel of duck egg blue at the moment.  I am in the process of designing a bedroom with this relaxing and cool shade.  I'm teaming the plains walls with painted white furniture and multi-layer shades from the palette with the soft furnishings...and just a small hint of pale grey.  I have added my mood boards below for you to have a look at.

I know this isn't a bedroom, but the below image was something that grabbed my 'duck egg' attention.  The shade works so well with pale greys too.

I am also in love with the amazing light fitting, what a feature!

Ice Cream Shades

This season ice cream shades are the go to shade to stay 'cool' (pun intended), whether in fashion or in your home.  These sweet shades are dominating the shop floors with beautiful soft displays of pale pinks, mint choc-chip green, lilac and soft blues.

These tones work great with a neutral background as you can introduce this soft palette easily with accessories, plush soft furnishings and pretty flowers.

The delicate and refreshing palette looks fantastic in sumptuous fabrics such as velvet, as seen on these amazing cube stools below, which happen to be on my hit list for my next furniture buy.

Love these plush stools - a great storage solution too!

A subtle and chic introduction to the trend...

More tempting ice creams...

This trend translates fantastically in to fashion too.  Maggie Gyllenhaal did this stunning shoot for Net-a-Porter's THE EDIT with an elegant and cool collection of ice cream tones.

Back to home design...

A more vibrant take on the trend, but still fabulous!

Going For Gold

Wow, what a weekend of sport!  As London 2012 reaches its final week there have been gold medals presented here, there and everywhere for Team GB and here at Butterfly Lane we are almost bursting with pride.

The Olympics have got me thinking about Gold.  As I am by no means an athlete (an hour spin class has me on the verge of collapse!), I will not be getting my gold bling my competing in Rio 2016!  But we all don't have to be in peak physical fitness and be an Olympic athlete to desire this colour.

Gold accessories against a dark backdrop

In this very blog I rave on about timeless and classic interiors, but I have a hidden secret...I am a closeted glamourzon!  I just love the right hint of glitz and glamour, especially in my home...and in my jewellery collection!  Gold epitomises glamour to me, and here are a few inspirational images that showcases how gold can look effortlessly chic and not in the slightest way tacky.

Use gold mirrors to add some glitz to a room...

This desk looks so stylish with hints of gold, and the red gives it and opulent and regal feel.

Remember, there are lots of different shades of gold, from duller tones to more champagne shades, so you can find the right shade that works for you, and they all can work fabulously against a neutral background.

Just add the odd gold accessory along with lashings of sparkling glass and you'll create a glamourous and decadent space to be proud of.

Let the interior design games commence...good luck!

Colour Inspiration: Champagne Shades

Champagne is such a luxurious and glamorous colour palette, and here at Butterfly Lane we cannot get enough of it's lustre and sophisticated charm.  It sits wonderfully with a neutral colour palette, and you can easily add exquisite accessories to really showcase it's glamorous side.  It works really well in silks and velvets and use heavier accents in dark walnut to really show it at it's best.   Use sparkling glass accessories to up the ante, after all that is how champagne is served...

Colour Inspiration: Brilliant White

We understand that an all white interior can be construed as boring and unimaginative, however here at Butterfly Lane we believe this 'bland' colour palette can look chic, understated and fresh as a daisy.

White Mood Board

A plain white interior can be lifted with small accent colours, by using flowers, cushions or small decorative accessories.  But remember to keep the walls and majority of the furniture and  accessories brilliant white to embrace this look to the utmost.

Colour Pop: Think Pink With Feminine Hues

The sun is eventually shining after a rather wet Bank Holiday Weekend, and here at Butterfly Lane we are thinking about livening up a neutral colour palette with hints of fruity pinks and dusky tones.  A pop of pink looks amazing against soft greys...

Incorporate a colour splash by adding an accent chair in to your muted room as seen below or go all out with an entire pink theme and add in soft greens to create a romantic feel.

Pale pinks are just so pretty and delicate.  Add wistfully soft flower arrangements in to any room to give it feminine charm.

Think pink to give your home a summery, yet pretty lift...X
