It's that time of year again for ghouls, goblins and all things spooky, but here at Butterfly Lane we like to take a more grown up and stylish take on the traditional Halloween pumpkin and inject some seasonal pizazz in to your home.

Here are our ideas below:

Inspiration For Monday

Mondays, lets face it, can be tedious.  So I thought I would document a few images that have inspired me for the week ahead.  From chic and simple kitchens to spectacular studies, I am eager to create something beautiful this week.  How about you?

This French Grey kitchen is so simple.  I love the use of leather pouffe style seating instead of  conventional high stools.

Bright, airy and those lights...need I say more?

A classic bedroom, and I love the chunky bedside tables.

Wow, wow, wow, I want this study please!

This is a tad u-turn in design style for Butterfly Lane, but I have a massive penchant to this style furniture at the moment - give me an Ercol inspired leg and I'm happy!

Summer in a room!

I just love dark furniture with light fabrics, striking yet incredibly simple.

This dark taupe room inspired me to splash the same colour on one of my bedroom walls over the Easter break.  Against tall white glossy skirting and light fabrics it looks super chic...even if I say so myself!

All I need to say is that I want this kitchen...now!

What's inspiring you this week?

A Little Inspiration Required

I have been lacking quite a lot of inspiration of late.  Maybe it's due to the 'renovation' meandering along at what seems a glacial pace, as builders continue to let us down, which continues to push the project back and back.  My dreams of a Beech House decadent Christmas seems to be spiralling in to non-existance.

Log Delivery
But on a positive note, next week sees the fitting of our log burning stove in the sitting room, so the copious amounts of logs that were delivered a few weeks back will be getting used pretty sharpish now the weather has turned wintery.  We were planning on having a log burning stove in the kitchen too, but our lovely stove expert convinced us not to, as we have a gorgeous and ornate surround that will be ideal for an open fire.  So he will be fitting the grate and most importantly disconnecting the gas to allow for an open fire.  I cannot wait!

Most rooms in Beech House, apart from the kitchen and bathrooms are ready to decorate, we are just waiting for a few messy jobs, like the kitchen and bathrooms to be transformed before we put the finishing touches on the rooms (brick dust and builders  might well wreck our light and airy scheme!).

I am still entirely focused on having a home that flows. Working with a limited colour palette of neutrals will mean that the house (and any home) will have one style, will flow effortlessly from room to room and will appear bigger as a result.  Obviously pops of colour can be introduced using accessories.  But what can I say, it's the Butterfly Lane way!

I have managed to find a few images for every room in the house that have ignited my inspiration this week.  Have a look below...

The Bedroom:  Clean, crisp and elegant.  With hints of shimmer in the textiles, mirrored furniture and strong black accents, this is a calm retreat.

The Entrance Hall:  Light and airy, these rooms create a sophisticated and welcoming entrance to your home.  The creams and soft greys look just stunning.  The dog is a cute addition too!

The Kitchen:  Sophisticated and simple.  The marble just screams luxury.

The Sitting Room:  I just love the cool greys and beiges against the clean white.  The stone fireplace is a stunning feature!  This room screams less is more, with simple paintings hung on the wall with great effect, and the TV (which lets face is the bain of any room design!), tucked neatly above the fire place so you can hardly see it!

I hope you are a little inspired by the images I have discovered this week,I know that I am!

Autumn is Approaching

I'm not sure if it's the change of season, the slight chill in the air or the abundance of the 'new collections' that are inundating the shops and online at the moment, but I feel like turning over a new leaf.  A new wardrobe, decorating my home ready for winter hibernation and leafing through my cookery books...stew anyone?

So on this note I feel completely ready after this busy summer to create an autumnal, cosy hide-away, for me to hibernate throughout the colder months. Now how do I do this?  I think the key words are, Cosy, Warm and Luxurious.  Think velvet, cashmere and candle light.  Here are my inspirations for my seasonal overhaul...

These muted tones are just gorgeous.  I love the soft greys and blues against the peachy tones of the blinds.  The furniture is simple, but the fabric choice is luxurious.

I just love the simplicity of these curtains, with a simple tie-back detail.  Autumn is a great excuse to add some berry tones to a room.  The berry cushions in this neutral backdrop really adds a warm feel.  Remember to accessorise to create a new look, there is no need to get the paint brush out.

Nothing screams winter hibernation more than a roaring fire.  A wood burning fire works so well in any home style, but this country cottage room just makes me want to snuggle up in that chair until spring!

Pure decadence!  The darker tones in this room makes it so inviting, and the candle light is a pre-requiste for any autumnal space.

The mixture of fabrics and muted tones in this room are divine.  We love the beaded throw on the sofa, very elegant.

Everyday Opulence

I am constantly inspired by understated and simple interior design, however I am also constantly drawn in to the opposite end of the spectrum with opulent, extravagant and lavish design (my alter ego you could say!).  Surely, both of these styles can work together in unison, and I'm a firm believer that they can, and I call it Everyday Opulence.  This look is not ostentatious, lets just say...plush!

To create Everyday Opulence Butterfly Lane would suggest the following 10 must haves:

1.  Velvet
2.  Glassware
3.  A lighting scheme using lamps and candlelight
4.  Textured and detailed cushions
5.  A little bit of sparkle
6.  Pearls
7.  Fresh flowers
8.  Shimmering fabrics
9.  Fanciful accessories
10.  A chandelier.

Creating sumptuous interiors is all about accessorising and here at Butterfly Lane we have some fabulous accessories that will turn your home in to a luxuriant and palatial hide-away!  Here are some of our favourites...

Every room in your home can have an opulent feel, and my no means least should be the bathroom.  Below are some gorgeous examples of how bathrooms can look luxurious...remember the glassware and the obliquity chandelier.

I am usually a strict neutral lover, and nothing else will do.  I do feel that vivid colour can create an overpowering look.  However, these images below are just beautiful and the sharp accents of colour add to the opulent and regal feel.

Going For Gold

Wow, what a weekend of sport!  As London 2012 reaches its final week there have been gold medals presented here, there and everywhere for Team GB and here at Butterfly Lane we are almost bursting with pride.

The Olympics have got me thinking about Gold.  As I am by no means an athlete (an hour spin class has me on the verge of collapse!), I will not be getting my gold bling my competing in Rio 2016!  But we all don't have to be in peak physical fitness and be an Olympic athlete to desire this colour.

Gold accessories against a dark backdrop

In this very blog I rave on about timeless and classic interiors, but I have a hidden secret...I am a closeted glamourzon!  I just love the right hint of glitz and glamour, especially in my home...and in my jewellery collection!  Gold epitomises glamour to me, and here are a few inspirational images that showcases how gold can look effortlessly chic and not in the slightest way tacky.

Use gold mirrors to add some glitz to a room...

This desk looks so stylish with hints of gold, and the red gives it and opulent and regal feel.

Remember, there are lots of different shades of gold, from duller tones to more champagne shades, so you can find the right shade that works for you, and they all can work fabulously against a neutral background.

Just add the odd gold accessory along with lashings of sparkling glass and you'll create a glamourous and decadent space to be proud of.

Let the interior design games commence...good luck!
